Congratulations to Charis Shing, violin, winner of the 2024-2025 CMS Preparatory Program Scholarship Competition. Shing was one of six finalists invited to compete for a full scholarship on Sept. 8 in the CMS Concert Hall on the Webster Grove campus. Other finalists were Hayden Baker, violin; Zoe Baldwin, violin; Eric Chen, violin; Aiden Moon, violin and Katherine Nguyen, viola. Eric Chen and Zoe Baldwin received honorable mention.

The Preparatory Program (Prep), is the pinnacle of the CMS sequential music education program offering students the opportunity to perform chamber music in various ensembles. Students receive high-caliber instruction from professional musicians on advanced repertoire, performance opportunities, music theory training and special guest artist events. It is an intensive program devoted to developing the whole musician and preparing graduates for a lifetime of musical success.

Charis Shing began her violin journey at the age of 4, and is currently a home-educated eighth grader. She has been studying with Ms. Joo Kim, first violinist of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, since 2021. In her free time, Charis enjoys reading and spending time with her dog, Flash.
