Accelerated Pathway Programs and Specialized Combined Degrees - Accelerated Pathway Programs

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) under Accelerated Pathway Programs should read:Ìý

Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Maximum number of graduate hours accepted - 9 hours

Students may select up to 9 hours from the following courses:

  • BUSN 5000 Business (3 hours) (only for students not completing an ACBSP-accredited undergraduate degree)
  • MBA 5010 Value Creation (3 hours)
  • MBA 5020 Quantitative Methods for the MBA (3 hours)

Students who have completed an ACBSP-accredited undergraduate program at Webster are eligible for a 6 hour reduction of electives toward the MBA and a BUSN 5000 waiver, reducing the number of required credit hours to 30 (minimum of 24 at the graduate level).

Note: The MBA may be a good choice for any student wishing to go into a management role in their field, regardless of major/minor. Students from majors other than BSBA or BS Finance should complete BUSN 5000, MBA 5010 and MBA 5020. Students completing the BSBA or BS Finance should complete MBA 5010 and MBA 5020, as BUSN 5000 is waived for them.

¾«¶«Ó°Òµ's BA and BS degrees are firmly grounded in the liberal arts. They represent differing but equal curricula. The University awards the BA to those who concentrate in language, literature, history, and other humanities and liberal arts areas. The University may grant the BS in social and natural sciences or in highly applied or technical fields. General education requirements are generally the same for both degrees; however, the BS may require more courses in the major, thus allowing fewer elective courses.

ILC 1000 The Power of Languages (3)
Language is a central part of what makes us human. It allows us to identify with one another and form communities but at the same time, it can also create obstacles and tensions between people. The objective of this course is to understand how language intersects with external factors such as race/ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation, as well as how these interactions reveal differential power relations. For example, how does the domination of certain languages alter global relations and cultures? How do languages impact the way we perceive the world around us? Students will approach language as a phenomenon from multiple perspectives and acquire a global understanding of its universal dynamics and mechanisms. LEGL 4340 International and Comparative Employment Law (3)

This course further examines and compares the roles of key stakeholders and the various processes of employment relations, including collective bargaining and arbitration, consultation, and employee involvement. Prerequisites: LEGL 2400 or POLT 2400, or permission of the department chair.

LEGL 4920 Global Business Law and Regulation (3)
This capstone course provides an opportunity for students to apply the knowledge and skills acquired throughout their legal studies to practical situations in the context of global business. The course will emphasize practical exercises and simulations to develop students’ abilities to conduct legal research, draft legal documents, use law office software, summarize depositions, draft interrogatories, and effectively communicate with potential employers. Students will create a comprehensive portfolio showcasing their work and skills, including examples of legal research, legal documents, and an employment cover letter and résumé. The course will also incorporate mock interviews to help students gain confidence in articulating their legal abilities and achievements to potential employers. Prerequisite: Senior standing.

Program Description
The Bachelor of Laws in International Law is designed to help graduates enter the legal profession outside of the United States. We offer a solid, broad-based education including legal specialty courses. Students will learn both
the theoretical and practical aspects of the law as they gain knowledge and an understanding of the
ethical framework in which legal professionals function.

Note: This degree is not approved by the American Bar Association.Ìý

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the program, students will be able to:

  • Acquire knowledge, understanding and application of fundamental legal concepts and principles;
  • Evaluate the foundations of the international legal environment;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of primary legal holdings within the field of international law;
  • Differentiate legalities between national law systems and structures;
  • Describe and critically evaluate key substantive and procedural concepts in public and private law;

Transfer Policy: Transfer students may apply up to 15 credit hours of approved international law coursework from
other colleges/universities. A student may obtain advanced standing for legal specialty courses through the transfer
of credits from other academic institutions if that program is in substantial compliance, regionally accredited,
approved by an appropriate legal authority, and otherwise meets the standards established by ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ.
In the case of transfer credit, the program director reviews student transcripts and a course description from the
institution which awarded the credits and makes a determination as to 1) whether the institution which awarded the
credits is accredited at a level substantially equivalent to ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ; 2) whether the credits were awarded
as part of a program substantially the equivalent to the ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ's International Law Program; 3) whether
the specific course appears to cover substantially the same material, including practical assignments; and 4) whether
the specific course involves the same number of semester hours as the equivalent course at ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ. In
the event the program director is satisfied, an acceptance/transfer of credits is appropriate under these criteria, the
program director generates a course substitution form indicating the source of the credits and the legal specialty
course for which it should be accepted as credit and the reason for that recommendation. The award of legal
specialty credits through examination or portfolio is not accepted.Ìý
